Now is a Perfect Time for Spring Cleaning your Signs
Just like your house or car, your signs could always benefit from a good spring cleaning. The usual extremes in weather in the latter months can take a toll on outdoor signage. Just look at some of these photos. In the summer months, especially in the southern states, the sun and the heat can warp sign faces, fade colors, even crack medium quality vinyl. You may notice the faces on your pylon sign, channel letters, and even your car wraps may start to fade and discolor. In the winter, the cold can crack your sign faces. It can even damage bulbs and cause them to go out. Some key points to look out for on damaged or worn out signage: – Your white signs faces start to look yellow and colors have started to show signs of fading. This is usually caused by extended exposure to heat and sun. Sign faces can usually be replaced in most cases. – Your vinyl letters and graphics are peeling, cracking at the edges, and aren’t as vibrant as they once were. The constant expanding and contracting of vinyl over time will cause your edges to start to peal and sometime cause medium to lower quality vinyls to crack over time. Couple this with long hot summer days and you have a recipe for damaged vinyl graphics.

- Your sign faces and channel letters have cracks, pieces missing, or even an entire face missing. You can usually attribute this to weather (hail, high winds, etc), drastic temperature changes (like a 80 degree day to a 30 degree cold front), and unfortunately vandals. – Your lighted sign just isn’t a bright as it used to be, or portions of it have gone dark. Lights get old and fade, they sometime even blow out. We’ve all see the photos of signs with letters out that end up saying something that may be completely unwanted at night. That’s why it’s always a good thing to check out your sign at night every once in a while if you don’t normally do so. Things happen, and we get busy during the chaos of the holidays and the new year. Take some time do some spring cleaning for your signage. Change out those old yellow and faded sign faces. Get that old crackled and pealing vinyl off your car and store windows and get some new graphics installed. If your letters are missing pieces or if your missing whole letters get them replaced. It’ll not only prolong the life of the cabinet that houses the lighting but also keep your professional image intact. Are some of your lights out? Have your bulbs or lighting fixed or replaced. Make sure customers can read your signs both day and night. So get out there and take a look at your signs, inspect, take photos. Make sure your signage not only looks good but is also functioning properly. You’ll be glad you did.

Exterior signage is a major component in the success of any business and a dated or run-down sign can damage a businesses look and reputation. When someone sees a dated or broken, run-down sign they are less likely to use the services provided because there is an immediate thought of: “If they can’t even take care of their sign, how can they take care of their customers”. Signage built to withstand the elements are comprised of durable materials in their construction but often the graphics, colors or lettering may not be designed to live the life of the internal components of a tough sign system. Luckily in most cases the graphics and effects of exterior signs are usually easy and cost effective to replace or upgrade. Just as an old ’57 Chevy with a sound body and chassis can be re-newed with a fine paint job, so can exterior sign system appearances be re-born through the use of high quality digital prints with a durable UV protective over laminate, new paint on the structural components, or the most exciting addition of a full color Virtual LED message board. There are many beautiful and modern sign systems in existence that are resting on posts and framing that were erected 50+ years ago. If the structural components are there, new effects and products can be used to bring life into signage and maintain a businesses standing in the eye of the consumers.

Churches, temples and religious sites all share the need for signage that is both permanent and changing. The solid and enduring signs in the form of monuments, plaques and permanent lettering give the patrons of these establishments the security and steadfast feel of the faith they share. Religious sites have a long history of directing people to and from their places of worship. Way finding signage in the modern world has maintained that role in the use of a huge variety of material and styles to match the look of a church or temple. These way finding signs can direct a churches patrons within the campuses and grounds of their places of worship with style and effectiveness. Another important aspect of signage in places of faith are the vibrant signs which draw attention and excitement to the annual traditions of the church year. Most holidays and important annual dates stem from our religious beliefs and an excellent tool for this is to use banners or free-standing signs to bring people into the locations for the enrichment of the event. The most modern and exciting form of church signage is in the form of Virtual Screen LED message boards. This medium allows places of worship to advertise events and messages in a dynamic and unforgettable way both inside and outside of the site. LED boards and screens can also be used in the sanctuaries as a supplement to the worship using images and text. Through permanence in material, directional structure, exciting banners, and dynamic electronic LED signage our churches, temples and places of worship can continue to be an important part of our lives and communities.

I defy anyone NOT to read Total Performance Training’s bullet points of the amazing services they offer while their car graphics are staring you down in front of your car in traffic. My point? Vehicle advertisement works and it’s the successful business that uses their vehicle to display their brand in an attractive and effective way. With today’s processes for vehicle graphics a company can utilize creative fonts and colors with adhesive vinyl or create beautiful and dynamic full color images. Virtually anything can be wrapped and it is also almost impossible to forget a fully wrapped van with a massive lighting storm or raging flames erupting from its panels. If Total Performance Training is boldly emblazoned across those flames and lightning bolts that business name is also burned into the memory along with the awesome images. So while looking at the muted and repeated colors of today’s modern vehicles I say let’s wrap ‘em up instead with excitement for the eye and commerce for our small and large businesses everywhere.

When one thinks of “lobby signs” the first thought to come to mind may be the bold metal or stone letters mounted on the lustrous marble and wood veneers of high profile offices atop New York skyscrapers. While this is still certainly the case, today’s small businesses everywhere are also now reaping the benefits of attractive lobby signs. One of the first tasks of any business is their branding. This is paramount in deciding where the direction of the business will go. Once the brand and logo are created of course an office space is needed. Every office space has a lobby, thus the need for the attractive display of the business logo. With today’s materials and creative minds any tone and theme can be met for a lobby sign, whether its glass and chrome for an industrial modern look, deep earth tones with wood and gold for a more traditional look, and even bright colors and playful typestyles for a friendly feel. Lobby signs can portray the theme and attitude of the business which puts their customers in the right mind-set to work with confidence in a company that has its brand and image proudly in control.
